Volunteer Spotlight – Brian

Brian brings quiet compassion and deep empathy to his volunteer work, guided by a simple but powerful belief: a desire to help others—especially those who are less fortunate.

Brian has dedicated his time to supporting the community in meaningful, hands-on ways. From helping package Christmas gift hampers for individuals experiencing homelessness to spending time at the Drop-In Hub, Brian’s impact goes far beyond tasks, he builds connections. Some of his most memorable experiences come from the many conversations he’s had with individuals who felt safe enough to share their stories. By listening with care and without judgment, Brian offers something incredibly valuable: dignity and understanding.

Brian believes that volunteering is a two-way gift. In his words, “one will receive much more than you give.” It’s a perspective shaped by both his volunteer experiences and his own life journey. He shares that being adopted into a loving family at the age of five, after facing difficult early circumstances, was “pure luck,” and it’s clear that this gratitude has shaped his desire to give back.

What draws Brian to this work is the opportunity to make a difference, even in small ways. He values how ICCS shines a light on the realities faced by those struggling for basic survival and creates space for community members to step in with compassion and support.

Brian reminds us that sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer is simply our presence and a willingness to listen.

Thank you, Brian, for the heart you bring to this work and for the difference you make every day.
