Volunteer Spotlight – Pam

We are deeply grateful to recognize Pam, for the incredible heart, resilience, and lived experience she brings to her volunteer role with the Island Crisis Care Society.

Pam came to know ICCS through ORCA connections her journey with us has grown into something truly meaningful. She first began volunteering at David’s Place in Nanaimo, and while physical limitations meant that setting wasn’t the right fit, Pam’s determination to stay involved led her to ask for another opportunity. That simple request brought her to Orca Place, where she has become a valued and familiar presence.

Pam is especially known for her Coffee with Pam visits, which have become a highlight for many residents. These moments offer more than conversation. They bring connection, laughter, encouragement, and a sense of normalcy that is deeply appreciated by both clients and staff. Her presence helps create a space where people feel seen, respected, and cared for.

Beyond her weekly contributions, Pam also took part in the Oceanside Coldest Night of the Year 2026, bringing energy, joy, and a strong sense of community spirit to the event. She continues to be inspired by the courage and strength of those she meets through ICCS, and she brings that inspiration back into every interaction.

Pam shares openly that volunteering helps keep her grounded and focused on others, describing it as a form of self-care that brings meaning and balance to her life. With over 25 years in recovery, she speaks with honesty and hope, reminding us that lived experience is powerful and can be a source of strength for others.

She encourages anyone considering volunteering to step forward, especially those who have a skill, craft, or passion to share. Her belief in dignity, safety, and care for people experiencing vulnerability is evident in everything she does.

Thank you, Pam, for your authenticity, your generosity, and the lasting impact you make in our community.
