Volunteers play a crucial role at ICCS, driving hands-on work and collaborative efforts to ensure optimal care of residents. Sue, a dedicated ICCS volunteer, also serves as the board chair of directors at the organization, a position she more or less “fell into.” Sue’s ICCS journey began when she had intended to organize a women’s clothing drive at Samaritan House; now known as Samaritan Place.
Sue’s interest in volunteering for ICCS was driven by her enduring passion for helping people. With her commitment to four main volunteer roles outside of ICCS and her responsibilities as a homeschool teacher for her two children, she is truly dedicated.
Sue primarily volunteers through the board of directors, where she and others are responsible for overseeing the updating and implementation of bylaws, policies, and other procedures to ensure that frontline workers and residents can effectively navigate the programming.
Although most of her time with ICCS is spent behind the scenes, Sue is always delighted to spend time with clients face-to-face during events such as the Strawberry Socials. To be present at these events allows her to see the impact of her efforts as a board member, seeing action through practice.
Whether she is overseeing her children’s academic progress or lending a hand to those in need, Sue truly exemplifies selflessness, dedicating each day to improving the lives of those around her.
The volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the continuation of programs, and individuals like Sue, who work tirelessly to assist wherever needed, are quintessential leaders who make ICCS’s mission possible.
With over 10 programs operating with the support of volunteers, we provide a variety of different volunteer opportunities in both Nanaimo and Parksville, including positions supporting clients directly, supporting staff and other volunteers, but also providing support within our programs.
